DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE

Our house church has been going through the book of Hebrews together. The following verse in chapter ten caught my attention this week:

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

(Hebrews 10:35)

We are in a time when anxieties and fears are high, when the enemy is poking at all of our vulnerable points, when everything feels topsy turvy.... A time when we could lose confidence in plans, in skills, in relationships, in God…

I wondered what kind of confidence this verse talked about though.

The original word itself translates as sharing loudly with boldness and frank speech. This could really only be referencing one subject - sharing about Christ. This sharing is a result of being firm in our mind about our Savior.

Even with all of the uncertainties right now, this is one area where we CAN be confident. We can remain confident in Him.

The Book of Hebrews has shown us how to do that:

  • We can study Scriptures and learn more about the character of God. (Hebrews 1:2-3, 2:8,10, 4:12-13, 5:11-14, 6:17-19)

  • We can look to our past and remember where God has brought us from and what trials He has brought us through. (Hebrews 10:32-34)

  • We can study the Scriptures and see Jesus emanating from the Old Testament and the New Testament. We can feel reassured that our hope is not in vain. (All of Hebrews... Hebrews 2:17-18, 4:14-16, 12:1-3)

  • We can ask the Holy Spirit to fill us with the gift of His boldness. Boldness to proclaim the Gospel. (Hebrews 2:4, 13:20-21)

  • We can have big faith, no matter what we ourselves see.  (Hebrews 11)

So let us seek Truth together and learn to know Him in a new or deeper way in this season. So when the opportunity arises, we can share with others the peace that only Jesus can give. The calm that comes from confidence in Christ.
