EASTER - CGKIDS

Parents -

Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Preschool - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.

**Special Announcement - Next Sunday, April 19, Pastor Jody is hosting a CGKids Virtual Hangout, from 10:30 am until 11 am. Hop online to say hi to Pastor Jody and to some of your CGNortheast friends. Pastor Jody will email a link to parents in our database so check your email for a link to access the chat. If you can’t find it, please email her at jody@cgnortheast.org along with the name of the child(ren) who wish to participate and she will send you the info. Get excited because we are going to have some special, surprise guest appearances by teachers!**

For Our Toddler children on Easter:

  1. Pray for your toddler. It can be something simple like - God we thank you for today. Thank you for Jesus coming back to life and being our friend!

  2. Sing Jesus Loves Me All the Time

  3. Watch the video above with today’s story. Today’s story talks about Jesus' death and Resurrection. It also focuses on the emotions that the disciples went through. Discuss with your child the different faces and emotions that were in today’s book. I asked them to show a sad face and happy face at the end of the video. There were multiple others listed.

  4. Have your child color this page.

  5. We talked about saying when people say “He is Risen” to respond with “He is Risen indeed.” Practice a couple of times with your child.

For Our Preschool Room children on Easter:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. We thank you for your Word. Thank you for sending Jesus to die for our sins. We celebrate His Resurrection today and the days ahead. Amen.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story. FYI - you might want to do some extra preparation in getting ready. The story is longer. There is also a pause for some rearranging of the story. This is important so make sure the kids pay close attention!

  4. Respond to the story - I know that craft supplies may be getting used up around the house during this time, so here are multiple ideas that can be tailored to what you have available and what your child would enjoy doing. If you would like help in narrowing the 10 options down, I recommend #9 and #5. Also, The Paid in Full handprint (#1) is especially easy and really gets a message across.

  5. Sing with Mr. Larry and Ms. Gayle’s video.

For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children on Easter:

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story. FYI - you might want to do some extra preparation in getting ready. The story is longer. There is also a pause for some rearranging of the story. This is important so make sure the kids pay close attention!

  4. If you would like help in narrowing the 10 options down, I recommend #9 and #5. Also, The Paid in Full handprint (#1) is especially easy and really gets a message across.

  5. Sing Glorious Day. If you have classroom type musical instruments around the house, pull those out. Today, there is a great joy to make a joyous noise!

For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children on Easter:

Also, in the video, I give this age group a challenge. My challenge is for them to share the first 6 week’s story. Put the story video on mute and let your child share the summary of each plaque with their siblings or with you. Turn the sound back on after the 6th plaque (Jesus holding the bread and the wine).

  4. Journal - today’s story showed a plaque of the bread and the wine, representing Easter on the one side. Why do you think Godly Play chose this image? What does this image mean to you?

  6. Have your child find Matthew 28:1-15 in the Bible and read it.  (Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-2, and John 20:1-18 also share the Resurrection story)

  7. Sing Glorious Day and Alive. (I want some pictures of you doing the dance moves to Alive!)

For Our 4th and 5th Graders on Easter:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they start.

  2. Read John 3:16. Have you heard or seen this verse before? If yes, where? This verse is used quite frequently. You may have even seen it on a sign out in the audience at a football game. Work on memorizing this verse.

  3. Read Matthew 28:1-15. Journal the following: How would you have felt if you were one of the first people to encounter Jesus? Would you have believed it was really hIm? What do you think of verses 11-15? Why the cover-up?

  4. Sing Glorious Day and Alive. (I want some pictures of you doing the dance moves to Alive!)
