Parents -

Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Older Preschoolers - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.

For Our Younger Preschool children:

  1. Pray for your toddler. It can be something simple like - God we thank you for today. Thank you for Jesus coming back to life and being our friend!

  2. Sing Jesus Loves Me All the Time

  3. Watch the video above with today’s story.

  4. Have your child color this page.

  5. We talked about saying when people say “He is Risen” to respond with “He is Risen indeed.” Practice a couple of times with your child.

For Our Older Preschool Room children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!

  2. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.

  3. Wonder - Answer the questions provided in the video.

  4. Respond to the story - Here are multiple ideas that can be tailored to what you have available and what your child would enjoy doing. If you would like help in narrowing the 10 options down, I recommend #9 and #5. Also, The Paid in Full handprint (#1) is especially easy and really gets a message across.

  5. Sing Jesus Loves Me All the Time

For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for Jesus. We are grateful he came to us as a baby and grew up to do many great and wonderful things. Amen.

  2. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story. FYI - you might want to do some extra preparation in getting ready. The story is longer. There is also a pause for some rearranging of the story.  This is important so make sure the kids pay close attention!

  5. Sing Glorious Day.

For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story. FYI - you might want to do some extra preparation in getting ready. The story is longer. There is also a pause for some rearranging of the story.  This is important so make sure the kids pay close attention! Also, in the video, I give this age group a challenge. My challenge is for them to share the first 6 week’s story. Put the story video on mute and let your child share the summary of each plaque with their siblings or with you. Turn the sound back on after the 6th plaque (Jesus holding the bread and the wine).

  4. Journal - today’s story showed a plaque of the bread and the wine, representing Easter on the one side. Why do you think Godly Play chose this image? What does this image mean to you?

  5. Respond to the story - Here are multiple ideas that can be tailored to what you have available and what your child would enjoy doing. If you would like help in narrowing the 10 options down, I recommend #9 and #5. Also, The Paid in Full handprint (#1) is especially easy and really gets a message across.

  6. Have your child find Matthew 28:1-15 in the Bible and read it.  (Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-2, and John 20:1-18 also share the Resurrection story)

  7. Sing Glorious Day.

For Our 4th and 5th Graders:

  1. Have your child pray.

  2. Read John 3:16. Have you heard or seen this verse before? If yes, where? This verse is used quite frequently. You may have even seen it on a sign out in the audience at a football game. Work on memorizing this verse.

  3. Read Matthew 28:1-15. Journal the following: How would you have felt if you were one of the first people to encounter Jesus? Would you have believed it was really hIm? What do you think of verses 11-15? Why the cover-up?

  4. Sing Glorious Day.

I want to highlight some resources for you to talk to your children about race, racism and diversity.
