AUGUST 2, 2020 - CGKIDS
Parents -
Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Preschool - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.
I want to highlight some resources for you to talk to your children about race, racism and diversity.
This book comes in a kid version and then also has a parent companion book if you are interested.
This book explores how God made us all different.

There are more resources for parents on our Gospel and Race Recommendation page.
Next week, August 2, we have something excited planned! We are going to have a Graduation Sunday parade! We hope you will join us as you drive through our church parking lot. We’ll have some of our teachers there to cheer your kids on and celebrate them! We’ll start at 11:45 am on August 2nd.
For Our Younger Preschool children:
Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God we thank you for today. Thank you for Jesus and we thank you that He loves each of us. Thank you for Abraham and we are excited to learn more about him this month!
Sing Father Abraham.
Watch the video above with today’s story.
Abraham and Sarah travelled. Color this tent .
For Our Older Preschool Room children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for all the stories in Your book.
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.
Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.
Wonder - Answer the wondering questions on the video.
Respond - Samuel heard from God. Eli told Samuel to say “Speak, God for your servant hears.” God speaks to us as well. Use this template to color ears, cut them out and glue onto a piece of paper as a headband.
Sing with Mr. Larry and Ms. Gayle’s video.
For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. We thank you for the promises that you made to the People of God and to us.
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.
Watch the video above.
Wonder - answer the wondering questions from the video.
Respond -. Samuel heard from God. Eli told Samuel to say “Speak, God for your servant hears.” God speaks to us as well. Use this template to color ears, cut them out and glue onto a piece of paper as a headband.
Sing with Mr. Larry and Ms. Gayle’s video or sing Love God, Love People.
For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for sending us your Son, Jesus. Please help us make others aware of Jesus’ love for them and how He gave to save us from our sins.
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.
Watch the video above.
Wonder about the questions in the video.
Respond: Journal your thoughts to these questions or draw a picture of your answers: I wonder if you have heard from God? What did He say to you? I wonder where and when you can hear from God? Draw a picture of somewhere in your house you can go or outside to hear from God. God can meet us and speak to us wherever we are!
We can learn about Samuel in the Bible. There are several chapters about him. Here are the ones that more closely follow our story from today: 1 Samuel 1, 1 Samuel 3, 1 Samuel 8-10. Read these chapters.
For Our 4th and 5th Graders:
In September, we are doing a church wide sermon series. My hope and plan is for our older preschoolers - 5th graders to learn, wonder and contemplate similar Bible Stories as our adults and youth. As a result, our 4th and 5th grade class will do some old Old Testament stories we won’t cover now and then we will begin with Creation, where we would normally start the school year. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have your child pray.
Read 1 Samuel 3:1-10.
Write down the answers to the following: what do we learn about Samuel? Why do you think Samuel didn’t know it was God? How do you think Samuel felt about saying what Eli told him? Would you have listened to Eli?
One way we can listen to God is to pray. We talk but we should also spend time listening, just like we would in a conversation with a parent or a friend.
We will learn about spiritual disciplines over the next year. Get a piece of paper and write: Prayer is talking with God. Draw a scene from today’s story. You can also add illustrations of people talking and listening to God.
Sing Love God, Love People.
