AUGUST 30, 2020 - CGKIDS
Parents -
Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Preschool - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.
I want to highlight some resources for you to talk to your children about race, racism and diversity.
This book comes in a kid version and then also has a parent companion book if you are interested.
This book explores how God made us all different.

There are more resources for parents on our Gospel and Race Recommendation page.
For Our Younger Preschool children:
Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God we thank you for today. Thank you for Jesus and we thank you that He loves each of us. Thank you for Abraham and we are excited to learn more about him this month!
Sing Father Abraham.
Watch the video above with today’s story.
God made a promise to Abraham. He promised him he would be the father of a great nation and great family. Our story went from laughing at the idea of someone really old having a baby to it happening. Color this page.
Please note: Last week and this week, we have been talking about Daniel. This week, we talked about the visions that he received. If you would like to go into more detail regarding what these visions mean with your children. There are some resources below that are more targeted towards our 2nd and 3rd grade. However, you can still use them as a guideline to have discussions with our Kindergarteners and 1st graders. We do talk about how prophets come so close to God and God comes so close to them that they know what to say or do. In our story today, we see Gabriel helping Daniel understand what they mean. For our preschool children, now is a good time to talk about prophets and how prophets in the Old Testament heard from God about things that would happen later on in the Old Testament or even the New Testament. People still have prophetic giftings today!
For Our Older Preschool Room children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for all the stories in Your book.
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

In your journals, think about the following:
For Our 4th and 5th Graders:
In September, we are doing a church wide sermon series. My hope and plan is for our older preschoolers - 5th graders to learn, wonder and contemplate similar Bible Stories as our adults and youth. As a result, our 4th and 5th grade class will do some old Old Testament stories we won’t cover now and then we will begin with Creation, where we would normally start the school year. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have your child pray.
Read Judges 4.
Write down the answers to the following: Who ruled the Israelites? Describe Deborah. What happened to King Sisera?
Deborah was a judge and a leader for Israel. She helped them know the difference between right and wrong. Deborah set an example of what it was like to follow God and to trust him. She listed to God and provided guidance to others. We need guidance as well.
Another spiritual discipline is guidance. Write on a piece of paper “Guidance is listening to the counsel of God and those who love us.
Sometimes we lead and sometimes we follow. We need to know the appropriate times of when to do each. Read Judges 5. Think about being there with Deborah and you are in a battle with Barak. Draw some scenes from the chapter as you are reading. Make a list of when you have been a leader and when you have a follower. Pray over your list and ask God to help you know when to lead and when to follow.
Sing Love God, Love People.
