JANUARY 17, 2021 - CGKIDS
Parents -
Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Older Preschoolers - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.
A special note for today - We are talking about baptism. If you are interested in learning more about your child getting baptized or walking through what baptism means, please let me know. Here is a document that outlines the steps and process of getting baptized and it contains some useful information regarding having conversations about baptism.
For Our Younger Preschool children:
Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!
Sing - we will be talking about how Jesus is the Good Shepherd for most of the month. Here is a song for the kids to listen to. They can start learning the chorus.
Watch the video above with today’s story.
Jesus is our Good Shepherd. Color a picture of a sheep.
For Our Older Preschool Room children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.
Watch the video above of our Godly Play story. Today’s lesson is longer. You may need your preschooler to take a break during the story. There is a natural break after we wonder about what all the story pieces could be.
Wonder - Answer the wondering questions on the video. During wondering, we wonder who the Good Shepherd is. Godly Play wants the child to try and discover on their own. If your child doesn’t come to the conclusion that Jesus is the Good Shepherd, please help them come to this conclusion. I will mention it next week as well!
Respond - If you have cotton balls at home, recreate a sheep or two from today’s story. You can draw legs.
Listen to this song about Jesus being the Good Shepherd. We are going to talk about Jesus being the good shepherd next week and will be sharing stories about Jesus for the next quarter or so.
For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for Jesus. We are grateful he came to us as a baby and grew up to do many great and wonderful things. Amen.
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

For Our 4th and 5th Graders:
Have your child pray.
Since mid September, we have been following what the adults and youth were learning more. We are going to hop back into the Old Testament until we get close to Easter. Today we are going to learn about Job.
Try to memorize these verses - Job 19:25-27.
Think about suffering. What does it mean to say someone is suffering?Do you know someone who has suffered? Have you?
Read Job 19:25-27.
Think about your answers from #4 above. Journal answers to the following: How does seeing God and knowing God is on your side make suffering easier? How can we trust that God still loves us and will take care of us?
Read John 16:33. Will we have suffering? How will we make it through? How do we stay close to Jesus?
Parents - As we continue to process the Capitol Riots on January 6, our children may be too. Here are some resources on how to discuss these events with your child:
