Parents -

Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Older Preschoolers - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.

For Our Younger Preschool children:

  1. Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!

  2. Sing - we will be talking about how Jesus is the Good Shepherd for most of the month. Here is a song for the kids to listen to. They can start learning the chorus.

  3. Watch the video above with today’s story.

  4. Jesus is our Good Shepherd. Color this picture.

For Our Older Preschool Room children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story. Today’s lesson is longer. You may need your preschooler to take a break during the story. There is a natural break after we wonder about what all the story pieces could be.

  4. Wonder -

  5. Respond - Make a bandaid and write Luke 10:27 on the inside. Here is an example of the craft.

  6. Listen to this song about Jesus being the Good Shepherd. We have talked about Jesus being the good shepherd and will be sharing stories about Jesus for the next quarter or so.

For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for Jesus. We are grateful he came to us as a baby and grew up to do many great and wonderful things. Amen.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.

  4. Wonder - Answer the wondering questions in the video.

  5. Respond - Respond - Make a bandaid and write Luke 10:27 on the inside. Here is an example of the craft.

  6. Sing Shepherd. We will be talking about Jesus all this month, including how He is the Good Shepherd.

For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above.

  4. Wonder about the questions in the video.

  5. Respond - Journal the answers to these questions: I wonder if you've ever had anyone be a neighbor to you like this Samaritan was to the hurt man? I wonder if you've ever been the one who was the Good Samaritan?

  6. Sing Shepherd. We will be talking about Jesus all this month, including how He is the Good Shepherd.

  7. Read Luke 10:30-35.

For Our 4th and 5th Graders:

  1. Have your child pray.

  2. Since mid September, we have been following what the adults and youth were learning more. We are going to hop back into the Old Testament until we get close to Easter. Today we are going to learn about Ezekiel.

  3. Read and try to memorize Ezekiel 3:4-5.

  4. Read Ezekiel 3:1-7. A scroll contains the words of God. Journal about the following: Why would God have Ezekiel eat the scroll? Is there meaning to this more than just eating paper?

  5. Read Ezekiel 3:22-27. Journal about the following: Since God closed Ezekiel’s lips, how could he make the words of God understood by the people? What do you think the picture of Ezekiel being tied up means?

  6. Read Ezekiel 4:1-3. What do you think God is telling HIs people in these actions?

  7. Thinking about today’s story and Ezekiel eating the word of God, we need to study the Bible. God gave us the Bible to help us learn more about Him. It helps us live our lives more like Jesus. We shouldn’t read the Bible like we read a magazine. We need to study it and learn what it says. This is the spiritual discipline called study.

  8. Read Revelation 10:9-10. Do these verses remind you of Ezekiel? Do you think it highlights the importance of knowing God’s word?

I want to highlight some resources for you to talk to your children about race, racism and diversity.
