Parents -

Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Preschool - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.

I want to highlight some resources for you to talk to your children about race, racism and diversity.

For Our Toddler children:

  1. Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God we thank you for today. Thank you for Jesus and we thank you that He loves each of us. Thank you for Noah and for him building an ark!

  2. Sing The Arky, Arky Song (Rise and Shine)

  3. Watch the video above with today’s story.

  4. Noah built an Ark. Color this one.

For Our Preschool Room children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for all the stories in Your book.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.

  4. Wonder - Have your child wonder what was his/her favorite part of the story.

  5. Respond - take a paper plate and cut it in half. One side of the plate you can use to color a rainbow (parents you can cut out the middle piece for the kids). Using the other half, you can color it brown and make it look like the ark!

  6. Sing with Mr. Larry and Ms. Gayle’s video.

For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. We thank you for the promises that you made to the People of God and to us.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above.

  4. In addition to the questions in the video, wonder about the following: I wonder how you would react if God asked you to build an ark?

  5. Respond - take a paper plate and cut it in half. One side of the plate you can use to color a rainbow (parents you can cut out the middle piece for the kids). Using the other half, you can color it brown and make it look like the ark!

  6. Sing with Mr. Larry and Ms. Gayle’s video or sing This is Amazing Grace.

For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for sending us your Son, Jesus. Please help us make others aware of Jesus’ love for them and how He gave to save us from our sins.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above.

  4. In addition to the wondering questions from the video, wonder about the following: I wonder if you would have obeyed God and built an ark if you were in Noah’s shoes? I wonder what it was like to witness all the animals gather and get onto the ark?

  5. Respond to the story. Recreate the story by drawing a picture. Draw an ark in the middle and draw pairs of your favorite animals.

  6. Read today’s story in the Bible - Genesis 6:5 - 9:17

  7. Sing This is Amazing Grace.

For Our 4th and 5th Graders:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they start.

  2. Read 2 Corinthians 12:9.

  3. Think about something heavy in your room. Can you lift it yourself? What about if you ask someone to help you?

  4. What is something you struggle with? Have you asked God to help you with it? If we ar having a hard time, it gives God a chance to show up and assist. He helps strengthen us when we are weak!

  5. Sing This is Amazing Grace.
