Parents - 

Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Older Preschoolers - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members. 

For Our Younger Preschool children:

  1. Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God, thank you for loving me. You love me all the time - day or night! Thank you for sending Jesus to show me Your love. Amen.

  2. Sing Thank You Lord. 

  3. Watch the video above with today’s story.

  4. Today we talked about Jesus calming the storm. Color a picture from here.


For Our Older Preschool Room children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!

  2. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story. 

  3. Wonder - Answer the questions provided in the video.

  4. Respond - When we share about Jesus, we talk about many important things happening with water. Use watercolors to recreate the water where Jesus was baptized. 

  5. Sing Hosanna (Praise is Rising). We will sing this song on Palm Sunday and it is a tradition at CGNE. I am hoping to get participation by all of our children whether it is in the sanctuary at CGNE or at home via the live stream. I will have palm branches available for those children who will be participating at home. Pick-up details will be coming shortly. For those who will be in person, we will do our palm waving in a safe, physically distant way! 


For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for Jesus. We are grateful he came to us as a baby and grew up to do many great and wonderful things. Amen.

  2. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story. 

  3. Wonder - Answer the questions provided in the video.

  4. Respond - Use watercolor paint and recreate the story from today.

  5. Sing Hosanna (Praise is Rising). We will sing this song on Palm Sunday and it is a tradition at CGNE. I am hoping to get participation by all of our children whether it is in the sanctuary at CGNE or at home via the live stream. For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.

  4. Wonder - Answer the questions provided in the video.

  5. Respond - Use watercolor paint and recreate the story from today. 

  6. Read Matthew 3:13-17

  7. Sing Hosanna (Praise is Rising). We will sing this song on Palm Sunday and it is a tradition at CGNE. I am hoping to get participation by all of our children whether it is in the sanctuary at CGNE or at home via the live stream. For Our 4th and 5th Graders:

  1. Have your child pray.

  2. Read Luke 10:27. Work on memorizing this verse during the week.

  3. Read Luke 10:25-37. 

  4. Journal answers to the following: what did the man want to know? Why do you think the Samaritan man stopped? How would you respond to Jesus’ question in verse 36? Why? 

  5. Stopped and think about what Jesus is teaching us in this story. Make a list. 

  6. Take a piece of paper and divide it into 6 squares. In each square draw a picture or write a response to each of the following:

    1. How can you love your brother or sister like you love yourself?

    2. How can you love a classmate/friend like yourself?

    3. How can you love your parents like you love yourself?

    4. How can you love the kid that has no friends like yourself?

    5. How can you love a homeless person like yourself?

    6. Write Luke 10:27 in the sixth square.

If you are a 4th and 5th grader and have younger siblings, please be a leader and help your brother and/or sister learn this song - especially the chorus!
