MAY 03, 2020 - CGYOUTH

Hey Fam!

CG Youth Ministry hopes to equip and support YOU the Family to effectively engage and disciple your child at home in the day to day life. YOU will be the most significant influence of your child’s development. We hope to come alongside and help you maximize that time by being confident and prepared. Below, you will find some guiding thoughts on what your child has been learning from CG Youth Ministries and how to engage. You will also find resources to contemplate how you can create a discipleship atmosphere in your home and BE the church as a family in your neighborhoods and communities.

CG YOUTH GATHERINGS

Things can seem a little crazy outside and maybe even crazier inside in isolation. If you are an introvert, you probably love it. If you are an extrovert, I feel ya. Either way, isolation can be a difficult thing to navigate. Regardless, even in difficult times, there are amazing opportunities.

Let’s talk about it: Discussing Isolation with your Youth

Season:

KNOWN - Understanding our Identity in Christ

DO:

This Week

Week 1 - He Knows Your Heart

Ask:

  • Who knows you the best? Imagine you were invited on a game show with 3 friends and those three friends had to answer questions about YOU. If your friends could answer all the questions correctly, you win! Who would be the three friends you invite that would give you the best chance to win? Who knows you the best?

  • What’s scary about being fully known, with all your good and bad stuff?

  • What’s comforting about being fully known, good and bad?

  • What would it be like to have a 24/7 Youtube channel of your life streaming to the world for anyone to see without anything edited?

Read: Psalm 139; 1 Samuel 16

  • What did you observe?

  • Summarize in your own words the main points in those chapters/verses

  • Pick out certain phrases, terms, or verses that you found interesting or really important.

Psalm 139: Pay attention to what God says about appearance

1 Samuel 16: David’s Anointing, pay attention to how God knows everyone’s heart

DISCUSS:

  • Does the fact that God knows everything you’ve ever done make you more happy or more worried? Explain the pros and cons of God knowing everything.

  • How do good or bad choices influence your identity? Do you think they define who you are?

  • Describe in your own words what “identity” means.

  • Discuss all the things that you think play into what makes your “identity”.

This Week…

  • Ask at least 3 people that know you well, that you trust, and will be honest with you to share positive and Godly traits that they see in you. What makes you beautiful, unique, awesome you? Also, ask them what are some weaknesses that you can be aware of and work on.

  •  I want you to do some research to find out what God says about you, his child. Search scripture, research online, ask parents and others. Find the identity statements God uses to describe you, his child, in scripture. Keep a list of what you find. Remind yourself of what God says about you often. Let that define more than anything else.
