MAY 17, 2020 - CGYOUTH

Hey Fam!

CG Youth Ministry hopes to equip and support YOU the Family to effectively engage and disciple your child at home in the day to day life. YOU will be the most significant influence of your child’s development. We hope to come alongside and help you maximize that time by being confident and prepared. Below, you will find some guiding thoughts on what your child has been learning from CG Youth Ministries and how to engage. You will also find resources to contemplate how you can create a discipleship atmosphere in your home and BE the church as a family in your neighborhoods and communities.

CG YOUTH GATHERINGS

Things can seem a little crazy outside and maybe even crazier inside in isolation. If you are an introvert, you probably love it. If you are an extrovert, I feel ya. Either way, isolation can be a difficult thing to navigate. Regardless, even in difficult times, there are amazing opportunities.

Let’s talk about it: Discussing Isolation with your Youth

Season:

KNOWN - Understanding our Identity in Christ

DO:

This Week

Week 3 - He Knows Your REAL Identity

Ask:

  • Last week we talked about how you and the world values Position, Appearance, Wealth, and Skills, or PAWS for short.

  • What POSITION does the world want you to have? Think about popularity, friends, likes or statuses, teams, accomplishments, etc. Write down your top 2 or 3 that you feel pressure from most.

  • What APPEARANCE does the world want you to have? Think about style, clothes, what people say is attractive, makeup, hair, skin, shape. Write down your top 2 or 3 that you feel pressure from most.

  • What WEALTH does the world want you to have? Think about money, possessions, phone, house, computer, bike. Write down your top 2 or 3 that you feel pressure from most.

  • What SKILLS does the world want you to have? Think about talents, athletics, smartness, education, etc. Write down your top 2 or 3 that you feel pressure from most.

  • All these can create a FALSE Identity, FALSE PAWS, that the world and the enemy wants you to believe and strive for.

Read: Psalm 139: 13 -15, 2 Corinthians 5

  • What did you observe?

  • Summarize in your own words the main points in those chapters/verses

  • Pick out certain phrases, terms, or verses that you found interesting or really important.

DISCUSS:

  • Find themes in these scriptures that share about where we belong, our value, our identity. Talk about what you found.

  • Above you created your FALSE PAWS.  Now, think about what a Spiritual PAWS would look like. Think through what God says about you Spiritual Position, Appearance, Wealth, and Skills according to Him and scripture.

  • Using the list from above, find scripture that addresses or talks about each thing you wrote and compare the False PAWS with the Spiritual Paws.

  • Reflect on some of the false identities and pressures we believe and face from the world that God takes away through His word and Kingdom and belonging to Him.
