SEPTEMBER 27, 2020 - CGKIDS

Parents -

Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Preschool - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.

For Our Younger Preschool children:

  1. Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God we thank you for today. Thank you for Jesus and we thank you that He loves each of us. Thank you for Abraham and we are excited to learn more about him this month!

  2. Sing God is So Good.

  3. Watch the video above with today’s story.

  4. Color a picture of Moses and the Ten Commandments.

For Our Older Preschool Room children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for all the stories in Your book.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.

  4. Wonder - Answer the wondering questions on the video.

  5. God created the creatures in the air. Make a bird similar to this one.  You’ll need construction paper, cupcake liners. You could even use pipe cleaners for the legs if you have those.

  6. Sing with Mr. Larry and Ms. Gayle’s video.

For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. We thank you for the promises that you made to the People of God and to us.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above.

  4. Wonder - answer the wondering questions from the video.

  5. Respond - God gave us the moon and the stars. Recreate the moon using a paper plate and cutting into the shape of what you think a partial moon looks like. You can draw stars on the moon and with parents permission put glitter on the stars.

  6. Sing with Mr. Larry and Ms. Gayle’s video or sing God is So Good.

For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children:

  • Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for sending us your Son, Jesus. Please help us make others aware of Jesus’ love for them and how He gave to save us from our sins.

  • Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  • Watch the video above.

  • Wonder about the questions in the video.

  • Additional wondering - I wonder what your favorite day of creation is so far? Recreate day 4 (sun, moon and stars); day 5 (creatures of the air); day 6 (creatures that walk on two legs or many legs) using what you have available at home. Here are some ideas of supplies to give your children to have them create on their own: coffee filter, paper plate, construction paper, cupcake liners, clothes pins. We like to put supplies in front of the kids and have them utilize their creativity.

  • In your journals, answer the questions that Pastor Erik asked in the service. You can also answer the questions in the Gospel Guide.

  • Sing How Great is Our God.

For Our 4th and 5th Graders:

  1. Have your child pray.

  2. Read Genesis 1:26.

  3. Journal -Who do you think is us?

  4. Read Genesis 2: 1-3.

  5. Journal - What did God do on the 7th day? What does rest mean? How do you rest? How does your family rest?

  6. Respond - God completes creation and He rests. Do you think God had a party on the last day? We celebrate milestones and events in our lives. Ask your parents if you can a small party with your family to celebrate all the things that God gave us through Creation! Part of our spiritual discipline of celebration is knowing that every good gift is from God and it is a reason to party!

  7. Sing How Great is Our God

I want to highlight some resources for you to talk to your children about race, racism and diversity.
