PHILIPPIANS 2 : 12-18
The church in Philippians was started by Paul. He was given a dream in the night by God that told him to help the people in their region. Paul's new church plant loved him and helped him as he continued to spread God's word. Jailed for preaching the Gospel, He wrote a letter to the Philippian church to encourage them, challenge them, and urge them to lay down their lives for the cause of Christ.
Questions:
Paul says God works in you to will what is good (2:13). That means He influences your desires, goals, and even choices. Have you ever been aware of God doing that? If so, what happened? If not, do you think: a) God does it and you just don’t notice b) God tries to do it but you don’t cooperate, or c) God doesn’t do it?
You have to work out what God works in. What are some ways you can do that?
Why do you think “grumbling or arguing” (2:14) is so unworthy of kingdom citizens?
Connection (within a House Church):
In your group, discuss the challenges we face as individuals to do the things Paul asks us to do. Do we have a tendency toward selfishness or playing the martyr?
How exactly do you go about working out your salvation, given your situation and personality? What help do you need?
Pray for one another as we work out our salvation together.
Go Deeper:
Investigate how a group of Christians can help work out each other’s salvation. (Gal. 6:1-5; Heb 3:12-13, 10:24-25; James 5:16, 19-20)
Memory Verse of the Week:
Did a particular verse make you think? Write it down and memorize it!
