LENT GUIDE 2020
Lent is a forty-day period when the church around the world prepares for Easter. The number 40 relates to many biblical events, but especially with the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness preparing for His ministry.
Lent comes from an old word meaning “spring,” so Lent functions like a spiritual spring cleaning in our lives. In the early church, the forty days were to take a spiritual inventory, to clean out the things that hindered their relationship with Jesus, to remember why they were baptized, and to renew their commitment to the way of Jesus by serving others.
In the season of Lent, we are invited to embrace the intentional way of life. For 40 days, we follow the example of Jesus. Matthew 4:1-11 shares Jesus’ temptation in the desert. From these verses, we can see God’s intention in preparing Jesus as opposed to Satan’s intention in trying to defeat Jesus.
The Lent Guide will provide devotions for the Sundays during Lent and for each day during Holy Week. Download the guide, in order to spend some intentional time reflecting on Jesus' journey to the cross, His death and resurrection!
