PHILIPPIANS 2 : 19-30

The church in Philippians was started by Paul. He was given a dream in the night by God that told him to help the people in their region.  Paul's new church plant loved him and helped him as he continued to spread God's word. Jailed for preaching the Gospel, He wrote a letter to the Philippian church to encourage them, challenge them, and urge them to lay down their lives for the cause of Christ.

Questions:

  1. Paul’s own life of sacrifice is an example of how a kingdom citizen lives, but he also points to the ways Timothy and Epaphroditus are great examples. What have these men been doing that is so great?

  2. Compare and contrast what you see between 2:20-22 and 2:2-4? What do these similarities tell you about the point Paul is making?

  3. What quality of Timothy or Epaphroditus do you think you could grow in?

  4. What opportunities for humble sacrifice, looking to others’ interests, or giving up grumbling and arguing do you have in your current situation?

Connection (within a House Church):

  • In your group, pray about the challenges we face in continuing to do the work Paul asks of us.
