FEBRUARY 7, 2021 - CGKIDS

Parents -

Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Older Preschoolers - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.

For Our Younger Preschool children:

  1. Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God, thank you for loving me. You love me all the time - day or night! Thank you for sending Jesus to show me Your love. Amen.

  2. Sing - we will be talking about Jesus this month. Sing Jesus Loves Me. You can also practice singing the prayer that Pastor Jody shared in the story. It is to the tune of “Are you Sleeping?”

  3. Watch the video above with today’s story.

  4. Jesus prayed and we can pray too. Color these praying hands.

For Our Older Preschool Room children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!

  2. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.

  3. Wonder - Answer the questions provided in the video. I asked the kids to wonder about where they have seen the colors from the calendar at church. Some of the kids haven’t been in a Godly Play classroom at all or not very much since COVID. Here are some hints and points to discuss with the kids. Behind the storyteller in the classroom we have something called the focal shelf. On the shelf is an underlay that has the Holy Family/nativity scene. This underlay changes colors to match the color on the calendar. If we were in class, it would be green. In the sanctuary, you may have noticed felt underneath the communion plate and cup. These change colors to match the calendar as well!

  4. Respond - Make a collage of the colors from the calendar - green, red, white and purple. You can use construction paper or tissue paper pieces. If you don’t have these at home, color with these four color crayons (white might be a little tricky….)

  5. Sing Every Move I Make.

For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for Jesus. We are grateful he came to us as a baby and grew up to do many great and wonderful things. Amen.

  2. Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.

  3. Wonder - Answer the questions provided in the video. I asked the kids to wonder about where they have seen the colors from the calendar at church. 4. Respond - Color the circle of the church year using the instructions. Attach the arrow and change it with Pastor Jody from week to week!

  5. Sing Every Move I Make.

For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children:

  1. Have your child say a prayer before they begin.

  2. Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.

  3. Watch the video above.

  4. Wonder - Answer the questions provided in the video.

  5. Respond - Color the circle of the church year using the instructions. Attach the arrow and change it with Pastor Jody from week to week!

  6. Sing Every Move I Make.

For Our 4th and 5th Graders:

  1. Have your child pray.

  2. We are talking about Ezra today. Before we start, it is important to remember that God’s people didn’t keep their promise to God. They promised they would worship and follow Him, but they worshiped other gods. They forgot to live their life for God.

  3. Read Ezra 6:17-22.

  4. How do you think the people felt? How do you think they celebrated?

  5. Read Ezra 7:1-10. What does Ezra know? What does it mean for God’s hand to be on someone?

  6. Today’s spiritual discipline is Guidance. Guidance means listening to the counsel of God and those who love us.

  7. How do others counsel you? I think of counsel as pointing me in the right direction. Who are people that give you counsel besides God?

It is Black History Month! I am working on finding some materials for you to use throughout the month. Here are a few resources that I found. Stay tuned for an update next week:
