JANUARY 10, 2021 - CGKIDS
Parents -
Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Older Preschoolers - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.
A special note for today - We are talking about baptism. If you are interested in learning more about your child getting baptized or walking through what baptism means, please let me know. Here is a document that outlines the steps and process of getting baptized and it contains some useful information regarding having conversations about baptism.
For Our Younger Preschool children:
Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!
Sing - we will be talking about how Jesus is the Good Shepherd for most of the month. Here is a song for the kids to listen to. They can start learning the chorus.
Watch the video above with today’s story.
John baptized Jesus. Color a picture of them.
For Our Older Preschool Room children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: God, thank you for my family. Thank you for Jesus. We are so glad that he grew up into a man and did so many great things!
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.
Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.
Wonder - Answer the wondering questions on the video.
Respond - A dove reminds us of Jesus’ baptism and the Holy Spirit. Make one following these instructions.
Listen to this song about Jesus being the Good Shepherd. We are going to talk about Jesus being the good shepherd next week and will be sharing stories about Jesus for the next quarter or so.

Since mid September, we have been following what the adults and youth were learning more. We are going to hop back into the Old Testament until we get close to Easter. Today we are going to learn about Cain.
I encourage you to memorize Genesis 4:7. It is the focus verse related to our story today.
Read Genesis 4:3-12.
Journal the answers to the following: What did God say about the gifts? What made Cain so angry? What does sin do to Cain? How did he sin? Does Cain tell the truth to God? What is Cain’s punishment. Does he even seem sorry?
St. Augustine said “Pride is the love of one’s excellence” What does excellence mean? Is Cain full of pride?
Think about this - Is there a time that you have chosen pride or anger? What happened?
Confession is one of the spiritual disciplines we cover in this class. As a reminder, we define it as telling the truth about ourselves and God.
Read 1John1:9 and Rev. 1:5 What do these say about our sin? Are there times of pride and anger that you need to confess?
I want to highlight some resources for you to talk to your children about race, racism and diversity.
This book comes in a kid version and then also has a parent companion book if you are interested.
This book explores how God made us all different.
