NOVEMBER 22, 2020 - CGKIDS
Parents -
Below are some resources for our children in children’s ministry. Please note that our Preschool - 3rd grade children are hearing the same story so that portion of the resources for the Sunday will be the same. The response options are different and have been created to be age appropriate. However, if you choose to reenact the story, you can have all ages participate. If you have multiple children in your family the Godly Play option for the K/1 grade room is a good option to adapt to all family members.
For Our Younger Preschool children:
Pray with your toddler. It can be something simple like - God, thank you for loving us. Thank you for all of your promises that you made and that you keep. Thank you for Jesus. Amen.
Sing Father Abraham. (We talked about him a couple of weeks ago!)
Watch the video above with today’s story.
Color a picture of David and Goliath.
For Our Older Preschool Room children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for all the people in the Bible. Thanks for all of your promises that you keep!
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.
Watch the video above of our Godly Play story.
Wonder - Answer the wondering questions on the video.
Respond - Create a crown using this template.
Sing Stories with Go Fish. You’ll recognize part of the song is about David!
For Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. We thank you for the promises that you made to the People of God and to us.
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.
Watch the video above.
Wonder - answer the wondering questions from the video.
Response- Create a crown using this template.
Sing Stories with Go Fish. You’ll recognize part of the song is about David!
For Our 2nd and 3rd grade children:
Have your child say a prayer before they begin. If they struggle, it can be something simple like: Thank you God for today. Thank you for sending us your Son, Jesus. Please help us make others aware of Jesus’ love for them and how He gave to save us from our sins.
Remind the children that the story they are about to watch is from the Bible.
Watch the video above.
Wonder about the questions in the video.
Response- Use a paper bag and cut off the top half. Save the bottom half as a bag for the stones. Make 5 stones out of clay or playdough. Make a sling shot by cutting out a circle and making two slits in it. Take a pipe cleaner or a piece of string through the two slits. Now you have the sling and stones like David!
If the kids want to read more about David, the following cover the some aspects of David’s life that we covered today: 1 Samuel 16-20
In your journals, answer the questions that Pastor Erik asked in the service. You can also answer the questions in the Gospel Guide
For Our 4th and 5th Graders:
Have your child pray.
Read Psalm 23.
David was a shepherd before he killed Goliath and before he became a king. David lived his life for God.
Journal - What does God do for David? How does God comfort David?
Today’s spiritual discipline is worship. David worshiped God in good times and in bad times. Worship is a way for us to talk to God and is a way to respond to God who loves us. When do you worship God?
I want to highlight some resources for you to talk to your children about race, racism and diversity.
This book comes in a kid version and then also has a parent companion book if you are interested.
This book explores how God made us all different.
