APRIL 26, 2020 - CGYOUTH

Hey Fam!

CG Youth Ministry hopes to equip and support YOU the Family to effectively engage and disciple your child at home in the day to day life. YOU will be the most significant influence of your child’s development. We hope to come alongside and help you maximize that time by being confident and prepared. Below, you will find some guiding thoughts on what your child has been learning from CG Youth Ministries and how to engage. You will also find resources to contemplate how you can create a discipleship atmosphere in your home and BE the church as a family in your neighborhoods and communities.

CG YOUTH GATHERINGS

Sunday, April 26

Things can seem a little crazy outside and maybe even crazier inside in isolation. If you are an introvert, you probably love it. If you are an extrovert, I feel ya. Either way, isolation can be a difficult thing to navigate. Regardless, even in difficult times, there are amazing opportunities.

Let’s talk about it: Discussing Isolation with your Youth

Season:

CG Youth is in a season talking about BEING the church and how we fit into God’s story with our gifts and callings.

DO:

This Week

A Devotional Thought from Sam and Devin Linette...

Ask:

  • What do you like about yourself? What is good about you? Make a list of your positive attributes. Maybe the list consists of qualities like funny, athletic, pretty, happy.

  • What do you not like about yourself? Make a list of things you dislike or wish that were different. Maybe there are words like insecure, lonely, sad, boring...

It’s interesting how we make false claims about ourselves or twist things we can’t change into negatives. Like “I’m not pretty because I am too tall”, or “I’m dumb because I can’t figure out this e-learning stuff.” We are all guilty of it. Are there things about yourself that you say, “Well, that's just how I've always been.. I can't change the way I run or the fact that I sin this way”? Spoiler Alert!! NOT TRUE!! Truth is, these negative “things” either are NOT true or don’t have to stay “true”. Sometimes our perspective needs to change. Sometimes our heart needs to change. Sometimes the way we see needs to change. And sometimes, our attitude and actions need to change.

I’ll tell you what has never changed and has always been… GOD HAS ALWAYS BEEN.

Read: Acts 14: 8-10; Acts 14: 19-20; Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 2:20

What I want you to notice in verses 8-10 is that if we are willing to believe, then God can make a way. God can make a change. The power of Jesus can dramatically change something that we might say “has been true since I was born”. Even a dude who had been paralyzed!

The next thing to notice is that we are asked to keep going. God has asked us to be his hands and feet. And when someone or something beats us down figuratively speaking (or literally if you’re Paul), makes fun of us, spits on us, reminds us of all the negative things about ourselves, we are shown to get up and keep going. Paul believed more in who Jesus was and who Jesus said Paul was than what others said or did to him.

Just keep getting back up. Remember who Jesus said you are. Sometimes people will make it difficult to do what you know is right… but, JUST KEEP GETTING BACK UP. Paul sets this example for us. (Who, by the way, was far from perfect)

  • Go back to the list you made at the beginning of this lesson and look at the negatives. Discuss and decide which ones just aren’t true, which ones can actually be changed, and which ones your perspective, the way you see them, needs to change.

  • What steps can you take to allow God change all of these negatives into ways to glorify Him?

FINAL THOUGHTS:

You are here on purpose. God has chosen YOU to be here. Your calling is to be a servant of God. You are made to be mighty. JUST KEEP GETTING BACK UP.

  • Ask at least 3 people that know you well, that you trust, and will be honest with you to share positive and Godly traits that they see in you. What makes you beautiful, unique, awesome you? Also, ask them what are some weaknesses that you can be aware of and work on.

  •  I want you to do some research to find out what God says about you, his child. Search scripture, research online, ask parents and others. Find the identity statements God uses to describe you, his child, in scripture. Keep a list of what you find. Remind yourself of what God says about you often. Let that define more than anything else.
